Those “moles” are called “dermatosis papulosa nigra” affecting African-American and Asian skins. These benign, pigmented lesions are generally found on the face and neck. They tend to increase with age. Generally a family history is noted. Removal should be performed by a dermatologist. He or she may use various techniques such as cryotherapy (freezing), electrodesiccation (burning), surgical intervention or laser. Any of these treatments may cause scarring or hypo-pigmentation (loss of pigment). Unfortunately, they may return.
